SMK Certifed for ISO/TS169490
April, 2009 SMK's line of touch panels for car navigation systems produced in our Philippines factory was certified according to ISO/TS16949, the international standards of quality management for automotive-related products.
ISO/TS16949 is an expansion of ISO 9001, an international standard for quality management systems, with requirements unique to automotive applications added. Acquisition of the certification is now a common requirement that many automakers require of their suppliers.
This certification is the direct result of efforts promoted by our factories who had to acquire various certifications related to international standards for quality management systems.
About ISO Standards
ISO 9000 certified manufacturing sites are focused on "quality management". Key components to compliancy include: fulfilling applicable regulatory requirements, the customer's quality requirements, to enhance customer satisfaction, and continued improvement of its performance in pursuit of these objectives.
The ISO 14000 certified factories are concerned with "environmental management". The organization goals are to minimize harmful effects on the environment caused by its activities, and to achieve continual improvement of its environmental performance.

A Green Partner (Environmentally-Safe Manufacturing)
SMK is committed to providing our customers with products designed and produced with minimal environmental impact. SMK has identified that it is increasingly important for successful companies to manufacture products that are not only safe to use, but environmentally friendly as well—products that are energy–efficient, environmentally safe and that can be recycled or disposed of safely.
In 2006, SMK products have been designed and produced to meet the requirements of the RoHS Directive (Restriction of Certain Hazardous Substances in Electrical and Electronic Equipment).

About RoHS
The RoHS Directive stands for "the restriction of the use of certain hazardous substances in electrical and electronic equipment". This directive will ban the use of agreed levels of lead, cadmium, mercury, hexavalent chromium, polybrominated biphenyl (PBB) and polybrominated diphenyl ether (PBDE) flame retardants from 1 July 2006. The RoHS Directive is an Article 95 single market directive to be inforced by the National Weights and Measures Laboratory (NWML).
